Finally A Wrapper Update

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

Finally finished the latest wrapper update.  I think I set a record by adding 33 new wrappers.  Of course, it’s a record because I had no time to add them before now.  And already I have 8 new ones waiting to be scanned.  It never ends!

So anyway, check out the newly updated wrapper page. And I can tell you that the discount offer for Candy You Ate as a Kid will continue for September. That page will be updated with a new code either later tonight or sometime Monday.

Willy Wonka, Giant Chewy Nerds, and Oompa Loompas

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

Willy Wonka recently claimed that the Oompa Loompas can’t come up with a song for Giant Chewy Nerds. So he’s outsourcing the work to the the kids. It’s a nationwide search for a new song to describe Giant Chewy NERDS. US residents between 8 and 18 need to come up with an original song about Giant Chewy NERDS, video tape themselves singing it, and head to Wonka.com to submit their video. You got until September 21st and music and images are provided on the website to help things along. Or you can find one of the Wonkalicious Lounge events (hopefully) at a mall near you and submit that way.

The winner gets to fly to LA to professionally record their song with the help of Raven-Symoné, best known for her “That’s So Raven” role (a show I admit I will watch on occasion). But those of us with no talent (or too old) aren’t left out. We can go to the web site and check out the videos. If you rate a video, you’ll be entered in a weekly contest to win prizes like Giant Chewy NERDS candy, t-shirts, and plush toys. One grand prize winner will win a year’s supply of Wonka candy. Go to the web site for all the rules and details.

More Price Increases

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

As expected, Mars has announced that they are also raising prices, just like Hershey’s did a week ago.  Pretty much the same reasons as Hershey…higher costs of raw materials, packaging and energy.

Mars didn’t say which products will increase in price, but most of the increases will take effect mid-October and more changes will take place through next March.  Will Nestle be next?  Probably.

BTW, I have been working on new wrappers for the site.  But it’ll probably still be a while before I can update.

It’s Gonna Cost More For That Chocolately Goodness

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

Hershey recently announced that they are raising their prices in the US by about 10%.  Not surprising, really, considering everything seems to be getting more and more expensive (I read where grocery store prices are up some 7% this year).  Hershey blames higher costs of cocoa, corn sweetener, sugar, and peanuts, which are up between 20 and 45% since the beginning of the year.  I’m sure fuel costs are to blame as well.  I also figure the other major candy makers will follow and raise their prices since usually once one of them does something, the others follow.

Quick Update

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

Finally got around to updating the comments page. As always, thanks for the comments!

I have about 30 wrappers scanned. I just have to find the time to prepare their pages. I hate when I get this far behind, but work’s been crazy and I’ve been using the weekends to catch up on stuff I didn’t have time to do during the week because of work. Hopefully I’ll be able to do a page here and there, and before you know it, it’ll be updated.

One thing I do want to ask…has ANYBODY seen the Dark Chocolate Reese’s that were supposed to have been released with the new Batman movie? I’ve looked all over and can’t find them.  And I’m getting comments from others who can’t find them either.

Candy Bars Stolen, Canada Suffers

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

It happened again. Another theft involving candy bars. According to the Livingston Daily in Michigan, A pallet of candy bars was stolen from the back of an unsecured semi in mid July. Police say the driver parked his truck at a Park and Ride lot to take a mandatory 10-hour break for long-haul drivers. When he checked the load later, the pallet of fun-size Snickers bars, valued at around $400, was gone. This is bad news for Canada as the Snickers bars were headed that way. And although Snickers are in my top five, I swear I had nothing to do with it. But, should someone offer me a pallet of Snickers at a good price, I might be interested.
