Madagascar 2 Contest

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

I finally watched “Madagascar - Escape 2 Africa” the other day. Well, actually, I watched the first 40 minutes or so during my lunch at work and didn’t bother watching the rest. I’m starting to think I’m getting too old for the animated films or something. It’s been a while since I enjoyed one. Saw Bolt at the cheapie theater. It was OK. Just OK. Rented Wall-E…didn’t really like it. Toy Story, I liked. I’m sure I’ve seen an animated film since then that I liked, but maybe not. Cars…just OK. Ratatouille…eh. (more…)

Ohio Schools May Remove Candy Bars

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

Ohio State Sen. Eric Kearney (D-Cincinnati) wants to ban junk food from public schools in Ohio.  His bill would limit the amount of sugar, fat and calories available to children from vending machine snacks and drinks, and replace them with more nutritious alternatives.  I agree with this. (more…)

They’re Back in June!!!

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

Some Reese’s news to share. First, the most exciting news (to me). According to reports, starting in June, Hershey’s will permanently add Dark Chocolate Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups to their Reese’s line. I’m excited that these reports are saying the addition is permanent. If you are a regular reader of my blog, you may remember me getting a little upset when I couldn’t find the Dark Chocolate Reese’s that were released with the Batman movie. Hopefully they will really be permanent as they’re quite good. They’ll be available in their regular two-cup packages and as Miniatures. (more…)

Candy Bar Madness

Monday, March 9th, 2009

I’ve never been a big Baskin Robbins fan.  I’m sure it’s fine ice cream.  I mean, they’ve been around for a long time…so that says something.  Growing up, it was either Bryers from the freezer (always at 9pm and Dad always got the last bowl), or an occasional trip to the mom n pop ice cream shop up the road.  For whatever reason, one of my memories from childhood is my Dad taking me and one of my older sisters to the ice cream shop where she picked watermelon as her flavor.  This was before most places offered you a free spoonful sample.  She tasted it, hated it, and started crying.  Dad bought her another cone.  Of course, to this day, we still tease her about it. Peppermint Patty Plant In Pa. Closed

Sunday, March 1st, 2009

Boy, I hate to see any jobs end up going to Mexico.  Not because I don’t like Mexico…I just hate to see people lose their jobs.  And since this is a candy blog, I guess I should report this.  The Hershey Company recently closed a plant in Reading, PA, that produced York Peppermint Patties, 5th Avenue, Zagnut, and Jolly Rancher hard candies.
