Is a Kiss just a (Hershey’s) Kiss?

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

I don’t know how I feel about this story.  A chocolatier in Brooklyn makes a chocolate treat he calls Champagne Kiss.  It’s made with chocolate and Taittinger pink champagne, among the usual ingredients (sugar, etc.).  Hershey’s heard about it and has threatened legal action over the word “kiss”.  Of course, Hershey’s makes Hershey’s Kisses. Cookies & M&M’s, and Other Questions

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

While working on adding comments to the comments page, Jasmin from Singapore asked about the availability of Cookies & M&M’s. This was a product that came out in 2002 (I believe). along with the Cookies & Milky Way and Cookies & Snickers. Here’s her comment: (more…)

Melissa Joan Hart Lives My Dream

Friday, June 19th, 2009

One of my dreams is to open a candy store. Like, an old fashion type store. I know it will probably never happen. But it’s fun to dream. Melissa Joan Hart, star of “Sabrina, the Teenage Witch” and movies, is lucky enough to be able to live this dream for me. She recently opened her own candy store in Sherman Oaks, Ca, called Sweetharts. (more…)

Happy Birthday to Pearson’s Candy Company

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

Depending on where you live, either you know Pearson’s Candy Company very well or have never heard of them. Pearson’s is based in Minnesota and makes such goodies like Salted Nut Roll, Nut Goodie, and, since buying the rights from Clark Bar America in 1998, the Bun Bar which comes in three flavors — vanilla (wrapper to be added soon), caramel (wrapper to be added after I eat one!) and maple. They also made the famous Seven-Up bar, a candy bar with seven different segments (Brazil nut, coconut cream, caramel, maple walnut, chocolate pudding, fruit jelly and vanilla cream…see wrapper here). Like a Sky Bar, but with seven segments instead of four. They stopped making it because it was a nightmare to produce. (more…)

The New Godiva Club

Sunday, June 7th, 2009

I don’t know about these loyalty clubs. Sign up, get a card or something, swipe when you buy stuff (or whatever way they’re going to track you), get discounts and free stuff. It’s neat getting discounts and free stuff, but some people don’t like being tracked in any way. I generally don’t have a problem with it. I have casino comp cards, and my Giant Eagle Advantage Card saves me money on gas and food. Now Godiva is getting into the act. (more…)

Free Candy Coups Have Arrived

Friday, June 5th, 2009

I blogged about the free candy from Mars and how I had such problems the first day. Well, happy to say that I got my first free chocolate coupon this past Tuesday. I actually got two coupons, which first lead me to believe I got in twice on that first Friday. You may remember that I had trouble with the web site from work and eventually had to have Laurie get me one from her work. When two coupons showed up on one day, with the address showing Michael on one and Mike on the other, I thought maybe I did score two. I probably used Mike when I filled out the form and I can see Laurie using Michael. (more…)

Upcycling with Mars

Monday, June 1st, 2009

I try to do my part to help the world….I drive a Prius, I use those squiggly light bulbs, I recycle my plastics. Now eating candy bars can help too. Well, sorta. Mars is teaming up with TerraCycle to create new “upcycled” products from their wrappers. TerraCycle will be taking Mars’ end-run, misprinted and damaged wrappers, and turning them into products like laptop sleeves, cell phone holders and tote bags. Mars has five business segments…Chocolate, Petcare, Wrigley, Food and Drinks…and they all will participate. So, OK, me buying a Mars product won’t actually help, but that won’t stop me from buying their products. (more…)
