Chocolate Cruise

Laurie and I have talked about going on a cruise, but have yet to pull the trigger. I think I found a cruise I’d like to take, but it’s a bit pricy and it sails out of Rome. It’s a “chocolate cruise” from luxury line Windstar Cruises. (more…)

Candy Closer to Being Banned in Ohio Schools

A bill that passed the Ohio House earlier this week would eliminate or restrict snack foods sold at school stores and vending machines at schools.  Generally speaking, items sold must have fewer than 200 calories, contain no trans fat and have limited saturated fat, processed sugar and sodium.  Plus, beverages cannot have more than 150 calories per serving.  The ban would not affect sales of snack foods and beverages at after-school events.  Now, the bill heads to the Senate. A lot of criminals aren’t the smartest people in the world. Case in point, what happened recently in Middletown, Ohio. A 32-year-old man was recently released after a disorderly conduct arrest. On his way out, he apparently decided to take two candy bars and a toboggan cap. (more…)

Very Old Snickers Wrapper

Time to try to help someone. Jeff from Dutch Harbor, Alaska, wrote:

I have found a cache of very old Snickers bars — actual candy bars not just wrappers, that I believe are from the 1940’s or earlier. I found them in the closet of a building that was built prior to World War II in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska. I am trying to definitively date these vintage candy bars. Please respond if you have any information that would assist me in finding out more. I have attempted to contact Mars Co. but did not receive much help from them. I believe these items are extremely rare, and have been unable to find a similar example elsewhere. I have a theory that they may have been part of a military food ration package, as they do not reflect a monetary value on the label as was practice in the 40’s. These are, however, without question quite old. The wrapper looks like very thin translucent waxed paper. (more…)
