New Products From Mars

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

Every year I say I want to attend the Sweets & Snacks Expo in Chicago, and every year I forget. Not just anybody can go, so I don’t even know if I would qualify. But I forget to dig into it and then it comes and goes (it ended May 27th). All I can do is read the news stories and post (OK, re-post, really) the things I hear. (more…)

Tasty Lottery Tickets

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

I don’t play the lottery much. We have a pool at work that plays the PowerBall when the jackpot approaches $200 million. And the same with the Mega Millions now that it’s available here in PA. And I occasionally buy some tickets on my own when the jackpot is up there (I have 5 tickets for tonight’s drawing…I don’t see how I can lose). I do buy scratch off tickets for Laurie every now and then. She likes them for fun. I think the most we won was maybe $5. But they can be fun. (more…)

Hershey Sues Again

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

Hershey is suing again. You may remember I spoke about them suing over someone making a Champagne Kiss. Now they’re suing Williams and Sonoma over a brownie pan. While I was going back and forth on who I supported in that case, I might be with Hershey this time. (more…)

Winner Gets Over Two Thousand Pieces of Chocolate

Saturday, May 8th, 2010

What would you do if you were 11 years old and won some 2,200 pieces of chocolate? Well, that’s what happened to a girl in Scotland. She won a contest by guessing how many pieces of chocolate were left in a candy store that had shut down. Her guess was 2,201 and the actual number was 2,207. Wow. Pretty close! More than 900 people took a shot at the prize, which ran over a three-week period. (more…)

Super Bowl Ad

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

The Super Bowl is this Sunday and if you’re like me, you look forward to the commercials. One reason why I started the web site was because I’m interested in how companies get us to buy their products through packaging. Advertising also interests me. And one candy company is hoping this year’s Super Bowl ad goes over more smoothly than their one from three years ago. (more…)

Candy Bar Bites Back

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

Every once in a while, you hear about somebody finding something in their food that isn’t supposed to be there. You know…a finger, a snake head, a nail. And I always wonder if these stories end up being true or not. Well, we got another one to wonder about. (more…)

Build Your Own Candy Bar

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

If you’re planning a trip to Hershey Park this summer, good news! Hershey’s Chocolate World hopes to have their latest attraction up and running by the summer. You’ll be able to actually build your own candy bar! (more…)

Washington Next In Line To Tax Candy

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

I mentioned a while back about Massachusetts thinking about taxing candy. And again here when Illinois did it. Add Washington to that list now as a proposal introduced ahead of the Jan. 11 start of legislative session could make candy and gum taxable. (more…)

Chocolate Covered Christmas

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

Much like last year, Laurie got me candy for Christmas. Although I think less this year. Which is fine because I really need to lose weight. Trust when people say it’s harder to lose weight as you get older. Or maybe it’s easier to put it on. Or both. (more…)

Chocolate Cruise

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

Laurie and I have talked about going on a cruise, but have yet to pull the trigger. I think I found a cruise I’d like to take, but it’s a bit pricy and it sails out of Rome. It’s a “chocolate cruise” from luxury line Windstar Cruises. (more…)
