Washington Next In Line To Tax Candy

January 6th, 2010

I mentioned a while back about Massachusetts thinking about taxing candy. And again here when Illinois did it. Add Washington to that list now as a proposal introduced ahead of the Jan. 11 start of legislative session could make candy and gum taxable. Read the rest of this entry »

Chocolate Covered Christmas

January 2nd, 2010

Much like last year, Laurie got me candy for Christmas. Although I think less this year. Which is fine because I really need to lose weight. Trust when people say it’s harder to lose weight as you get older. Or maybe it’s easier to put it on. Or both. Read the rest of this entry »

Chocolate Cruise

December 27th, 2009

Laurie and I have talked about going on a cruise, but have yet to pull the trigger. I think I found a cruise I’d like to take, but it’s a bit pricy and it sails out of Rome. It’s a “chocolate cruise” from luxury line Windstar Cruises. Read the rest of this entry »

Candy Closer to Being Banned in Ohio Schools

December 18th, 2009

A bill that passed the Ohio House earlier this week would eliminate or restrict snack foods sold at school stores and vending machines at schools.  Generally speaking, items sold must have fewer than 200 calories, contain no trans fat and have limited saturated fat, processed sugar and sodium.  Plus, beverages cannot have more than 150 calories per serving.  The ban would not affect sales of snack foods and beverages at after-school events.  Now, the bill heads to the Senate. Comments Updated Now

December 9th, 2009

Well, put some butter on me because I’m on a roll.  The Candy Comments page has been updated today. Finally got a lot of things updated this week. I’d promise to try to do updates more rapidly, but I know I won’t be able to keep that promise.

Finally a Wrapper Update

December 7th, 2009

I finally got a chance to do an update, adding around 26 wrappers.  Check out the main page for more information as I also updated the Coming Soon page. Also, embarrassed to admit I totally forgot to update the coupon page until today.

Things You Shouldn’t Do…Steal Candy From Police

December 4th, 2009

A lot of criminals aren’t the smartest people in the world. Case in point, what happened recently in Middletown, Ohio. A 32-year-old man was recently released after a disorderly conduct arrest. On his way out, he apparently decided to take two candy bars and a toboggan cap. Read the rest of this entry »

Very Old Snickers Wrapper

December 2nd, 2009

Time to try to help someone. Jeff from Dutch Harbor, Alaska, wrote:

I have found a cache of very old Snickers bars — actual candy bars not just wrappers, that I believe are from the 1940’s or earlier. I found them in the closet of a building that was built prior to World War II in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska. I am trying to definitively date these vintage candy bars. Please respond if you have any information that would assist me in finding out more. I have attempted to contact Mars Co. but did not receive much help from them. I believe these items are extremely rare, and have been unable to find a similar example elsewhere. I have a theory that they may have been part of a military food ration package, as they do not reflect a monetary value on the label as was practice in the 40’s. These are, however, without question quite old. The wrapper looks like very thin translucent waxed paper. Read the rest of this entry »

Follow Up to Cyber Monday

November 30th, 2009

Shoot. Meant to get on earlier and remind everybody about the offer from Old Time Candy Company for today only. They are offering free shipping on any order $25 and above. Just click this link and use coupon code cyber09. This promotion is good for anything they sell and for an unlimited number of orders, but cannot be combined with any of their other coupons and is good today (Cyber Monday, November 30th) only. Old Time Candy Company specializes in candy you thought was no longer available, and they also sell modern favorites. Candy is an awesome present and you can’t beat free shipping.

And I finally got around to scanning some wrappers that were stacking up. Still not sure when I’ll update the Main Page, but step one is done.

Cyber Monday and Dark Chocolate Reese’s

November 27th, 2009

Happy Black Friday!  I’m writing this from the comfort of my home.  No, I am not venturing out with all the mad shoppers, but Laurie and I do have to swing by one of her co-workers house and check in on her cat while she’s away. While we’re out, there is talk of going to the cheapie movie theater and seeing The Invention of Lying. 99 cent movies. Can’t beat it. The theater is in a mall-type setting, but one of those malls that’s barely surviving and it won’t be until this afternoon so we should be good.  Read the rest of this entry »
